Loss | Toledo Newborn Photographer

On my public profiles, I had shared news of excitement that couldn’t be contained.  We were expecting baby number 5! Our 6th pregnancy, as we had a loss in 2012, exactly 9 months before we found out we were expecting our now 14 month old baby boy.  Now we were excited that he was going to be a big brother.  Maybe it would be a girl for all of our boys. Maybe it would just be another boy.  Either way we were too excited to wait and tell people.  Almost a month and a half went by after we posted our announcement before we were shocked with the news that our baby was gone.  There was no longer a heart beat.  All of our hopes and dreams came crashing down in that instant.

Yesterday I miscarried.  I won’t pretend that I understand the why.  I still have faith that this WILL be okay.  God has a plan, and although I don’t know it, and I don’t agree with it, it’s not my choice to make.  God didn’t kill my baby.  My God is a good God.  This is just an effect of the world and sin today.  My baby never knew pain, never knew fear, never knew heart break.  This is a very difficult post to write, but maybe just maybe it will help someone else.  I struggled to know whether to write such a personal post on my photography page, but maybe it’s for you.  If it’s not, then I apologize.  All I know is my baby went from knowing love in the womb to knowing the love of God.  He is better for the baby than I could ever be.  He knew my pain before it happened, and while the pain is deep and unbearable and uncomfortable, God is right there saying I KNOW.  JUST HOLD ON TO ME.  I’ve screamed in anger, and I’ve cried in grief.  God understands it all.

Maybe you’re in my shoes, and you just need someone to tell you it’s going to be okay.  IT IS GOING TO BE OK.  Nothing will ever replace your baby, or the love you have for your little one.  All I want you to know is I’m praying.  I’m praying you’ll begin to feel the kind of comfort in this moment that I’m feeling, and I’m praying that people would love on you the way they have for me.  For those who are carrying and expecting their little ones, cherish it, and everything that comes with it.  I wish you luck on the journey ahead, and hopefully I’ll get to photograph your newborn that you’ve waited so patiently for.  <3

With Love,

-Joy

Newborn Twin Boys | Toledo Newborn Photographer

Toledo Newborn Photographer

While I’ve had a lot of sessions I haven’t had a chance to blog about yet (it seems like I edit non-stop at the moment!) I had to take a quick moment to post some of my favorite images that were done today during a newborn shoot, with not one, but with TWO amazing baby boys.  They came into this world early, and were a month old by the time they were able to come see me to have their portraits done, but they did wonderfully.  Normally, my window for newborns is between their 5th-10th day of life, but things happen, and sometimes babies come early.  For those that do, we can accommodate their sessions and get them in as soon as they’re able to come.  These were definitely some much anticipated miracle boys for their parents.

Here is the first image that I edited and fell in love with of the boys.  They’ve got brotherly love, right from the start.

The next image took a bit of patience to get, but once we got both boys nicely snug in their basket, they were out.  (Please note, this is a composite image for each baby’s safety)

I can only imagine the tricks they’ll be pulling in a few years on mom and dad (especially trying to switch who is who) but I’m sure they’ll be a ton of fun.

If you’d like to purchase a newborn session with me, please contact me at joyphotography@live.com to set up your session.  Space is becoming extremely limited for the rest of October already, and I’m also booking into November, December, and January.  Let me know if you’d like to secure your spot!

Toledo Baby Photographer | Older “newborn” session

I recently needed some props modeled, and had a woman recommend her beautiful one month old daughter for the session.  I hadn’t really worked with the non-typical newborns who were over ten days old in quite a while, so I decided to give it a try again.  I must say I absolutely love the images we came up with for her.  While trying to get sleepy curled up poses was a little harder than the average newborn, I think she still did pretty well.  Here are a few of my favorite images from her session.

By the way, most of the props are from the shop Fiber & Twine (the white bonnet and light blanket is not).  You can view her etsy site here.  I’m an absolute fan of her work, and can’t wait to order some new things from her soon. 🙂

Women’s Contemporary Beauty Sessions | Toledo Photographer

Toledo Mary Kay Beauty Consultant

I haven’t had a whole lot of time lately for blogging about sessions, which I’m sorry for.  There has been a big boom of sessions, and I’ve been in editing mode for weeks to make sure they’re all done on time.  Aside from that, I’m also a mom, and I’ve been trying to spend time with my children and make sure to be in the moment with them (even if in the moment means becoming their hero at playing video games).  Ah, the life of boys.  I’ve been wanting to build my second business though (which happens to be Mary Kay).  I would love to get some women in to do before/after portraits since I provide facials & a free beauty look after the pampering session is completed.  I’ve been wanting to start expanding out to providing women’s beauty portraits anyway, so it just makes sense to do it this way.

If you would love to help me with building that portfolio, I will provide a professionally printed & mounted piece after you’ve received your look. To schedule your facial, you can email me at: joyphotography@live.com.  There is no obligation to buy, but if you do fall in love with any of the products available, like our Miracle Set, those are also available for purchase.  Plus, who doesn’t love adding to their makeup collection anyways?  If you’d even like to host a party and get away from the kids for a women’s day out, we can do that too.  I know I’m not the only mom out there who just needs a break once in a while.

I also promise I’ll start to get some of the newer sessions I’ve been working on up so you can see them!  These sweet newborns have been absolutely darling (although some of them have challenged me to see who would win during their session…but it’s ok.  I always win).

Toledo Pregnancy Photographer | Beach Maternity Session

As a Toledo pregnancy photographer, I have had the honor of capturing many expectant moms as they await their little one’s birth, but I finally had a first.  A beach session.  I can’t lie, I was very excited about it, especially since  it was something I hadn’t done before.  I know you want to read about it, so here you go!

A woman recently contacted me about having maternity pictures done, and when she suggested our local beach, Maumee Bay, in Oregon, Ohio I was beyond thrilled.  I had a certain vision in mind for at least one of the images, and I have to say it turned out exactly how I imagined it in my mind.  I’m so glad she was up for it, and wasn’t too uncomfortable since her baby girl is due in just 3 short weeks.  I’m glad to be adding the bay as a new area that I’m offering to clients now as well, since it turned out so beautifully.  It has this amazing view, some rocks to use, and some big pieces of driftwood as well, which of course, we used in her other images.

See what I mean?  Isn’t this soon-to-be momma absolutely stunning?!

If you would like your own beach maternity shoot before it gets too cold out, please contact me.  These are best done between 34-37 weeks, and are currently available as a complimentary add-on with any paid newborn session throughout the rest of 2014.   I also do provide the split-front gown for the session if you would like to wear one.  If not, you’re more than welcome to bring your own outfit of choice for the session.  There are also a variety of metro parks throughout the area that sessions can be done at as well if a beach one isn’t something you’d be interested in.  To schedule a session of your own, contact me:  joyphotography@live.com
