Just Born | Flower Hospital Newborn

There is something so beautiful and breathtaking about a newborn baby that is just not able to be properly expressed.  It may be knowing that you’re getting to see a miracle first hand, and hold it, and breathe it in.  The first few days of their life is a whirlwind of emotions, but that beautiful bundle makes it worth it.  That newness is unlike anything else in the world.  To think that the same baby who moved and kicked and learned how to live is now in front of you is astonishing.  Even better is getting to see some of the same movements they did in the womb while they’re still so tiny.  That’s why I love what I do.  Newborn photography captures that.  Just Born sessions capture the tiniest details in a non-posed lifestyle session at the hospital, whether it’s the newborn cries, the details, or a beautiful baby drifting off in a milk coma.

Babies change SO quickly in those first days (and first weeks of life) and it’s so important to document that.  Today I had the pleasure to capture that moment for some friends of mine as they welcomed their third baby into the world.  Here are a few of the first moments, as he was just a few hours old.

Welcome to the world.  Kaila & Jamey, you’re so incredibly blessed, and I’m so happy for you both.

Going Outdoors With Baby | JOY Photography Toledo

The weather here in Ohio has been quite nice recently.  Nice enough to actually take some sweet babies outdoors for their portrait sessions.  Soon, you’ll see some updates of where we’ve went.  While my main focus has been newborns (and they’ve been amazing!) today’s post is to focus on Miss Parker.  She’s been one of my baby plan clients since she was 3 months old, and we decided to take her outdoors for her 9 month portraits.  We met up at the Toledo Botanical Gardens and found some amazing spots that we could use (even with it being overly busy that day!).

Here are some of my favorites from her day with me, which I’m sure her mom and dad will love, especially since the Botanical Gardens are also the place that they were married.  I love being able to use spots that are very special to couples for their sessions with their littles.

If you’re maybe thinking about scheduling with me, you should!  August is already nearly full, as I only take on a limited amount of sessions.  If you’re expecting, ask me about my payment plans for baby’s first year!  I love getting to give you memories of your baby throughout their entire first year!  (Of course, you’re also welcome to book just the newborn session as well!)

A Beautiful Baby Bump | Ohio Maternity Photographer

It’s not often that women want to feel big and beautiful, and sometimes it takes some convincing to get an expectant mama to see her beauty during those final months of pregnancy.  In the Summer, it can get even worse because of it being so hot…but then, every once in a while, I get a mama who comes in and just knows her true beauty in that moment.  I’m excited to capture all women during their pregnancies, but I absolutely love it when there is that confidence in that moment.  It makes my job just a tiny bit easier.  That brings me to the mama from my most recent bump session.  She had been looking for a photographer and was actually referred to me by my amazing cousin (thank you Susan!).  So, we got the expectant parents on my schedule and waited for the date to get here.  Soon enough, it was time, and let me tell you, these parents are so ready to meet their little man.  I love seeing the joy on the faces of expectant parents.  Nothing can touch that excitement and anticipation.  In a few weeks, they’ll get to meet him, love on him, and snuggle him for the very first time.  I’m so excited for you both!

I mean, just look at them!  Absolutely beautiful.

Maybe you’ve been apprehensive about your bump.  Maybe you don’t see the point.  The fact is this moment is only going to happen a few times in your life.  One day you’ll look back and want to see these moments again.  One day that sweet new baby is going to ask how they got here, and these moments are important for them.  Remember this.  Cherish this.  It’s such a short time.  I promise you’ll feel beautiful when you see your images.

If you’d like to schedule your own maternity session, mention this post to get $25 off.  You can schedule through the contact area of my site, or by emailing me at joyphotography@live.com.  I would love to work with you.

Baby’s First Year | 4 months

Some of my baby planners do the newborn, 6m and 12 month sessions, and others opt to get newborn, 3m, 6m, and 12 month portraits.  This little one is a sweet baby girl that I was able to photograph as a newborn, and mom then decided to go ahead and do the baby plan.  She had just turned four months today, but we made it work.

Mom brought big sister, we put on some cartoons (and did some bribery) and photographed the little one, then added in some portraits with big sis.  I absolutely love how they came out, especially with some of the outfits that mom brought in to use.  I doubt that Chevron or ruffles will ever get old in my book.  Even with loving more neutral/natural colors and tones, I can always work in and accommodate in other things.  Plus, when it’s cute stuff, I love it even more. 🙂

Anyway, here are some of the photos from her session, done right here in my home studio in Toledo, OH.

Such a cute girl.  Isn’t she adorable?!

Loving a portrait with big sis in matching outfits.  The girly tutu onesie looks cute on a chunky baby. 🙂

This is an outfit mom brought with her.  I love the pearl accents and the matching ruffled chevron diaper cover and headband.  She’s getting so big, and lifting her head up so well!

Holding your head up is a lot of hard work.  Time to give this sweet girl a break and let her lay down and relax for a bit, don’t you think?  I love capturing babies at this stage on their backs in a prop of some sort.  This also may be my new favorite go-to prop for babies. 🙂

Amazing Families | Ohio Portrait Photographer -Toledo

Amazing families are everywhere outdoors, especially with the summer months.  Outdoors is hot, Summer is hot, get outdoor mini sessions done now.

The families that schedule with me are absolutely amazing, especially since they often have the best wardrobe choices and can talk for hours about things like certain television shows or home decor that’s on the *dream home* list.  This family was just as amazing as my newborn and baby families have been, and I loved how our location of choice worked so well for them.  Here are some of my favorite images from the day.  Thank you to the family for being patient while I hand-retouched your images. They are beautiful!

I especially love the covered bridge area that we were able to use that day (even though it seemed to be a pretty popular spot with all the people out running/exercising).  If you would love your own set of family images, mini sessions are being held for $125, which includes up to 10 digital images with a print release.  These are perfect for families who just need a few updated pictures (or pictures of baby outside.)  With Father’s Day quickly approaching, this would be a perfect gift to get for dad too.  If you’d rather get portraits for the next upcoming holiday, don’t forget, the fourth of July is coming up too. I’d love to get some patriotic portraits of your little ones!
