Michigan Photographer?! What’s New

I rarely let people into my personal bubble to let them know what’s going on, but with the recent inquiries that have been coming in, I have to say I won’t be taking anymore clients from Ohio.  I separated from my husband of 14 years, and am planning on a divorce relatively soon.  I moved 3 hours north to the Central Michigan area (home of CMU!) and plan to completely re-start my business up here and also rock being a single mom.  For those I’ve worked with before though, next Summer I will likely make at least a few slots available for previous clients and make the trip down.  In the meantime, you’re likely wondering exactly what counties I’ll be serving.  The answer is Clare, Farwell, Roscommon, Gladwin, Beaverton, Coleman, Isabella, Mecosta, Osceoloa, and Missaukee counties.  Of course, if you live outside of those areas and would like to travel here for a session, I would love to be able to work with you.  Plus, if you do travel in, we have Cops and Doughnuts here, so you can get some amazing treats in the area from there, and even act like a tourist for a bit.

I also plan on offering some new sessions, working with women of all ages, and also adding senior sessions to my portfolio (Hey Clare Pioneers, Farwell Eagles, Beaverton Beavers, Harrison Hornets, and Coleman Comets!)  They will be added as mini sessions for now, which will be $150 for 15 images.  For the women’s sessions I would love to have some women book who want to show up with hair/makeup done and change into a formal dress and just be photographed looking absolutely beautiful.  We typically don’t make time for ourselves once we add in motherhood or pursuing our careers, and we should be celebrating ourselves for being amazing!  If you’d like to book a session with me in Michigan, feel free to send me an inquiry, or you can shoot me an email at: joyphotography@live.com

Hope to hear from you soon!

Big Changes, and a Big Time To Start Over | Mid Michigan Photographer

Sometimes when you say your vows, they hold true eternally and life is all about having fun, making a family, and growing old together.  Sometimes those plans come to a halt.  Unfortunately my story has come to a halt for my husband and I, and I’m learning to live again. I’m Learning to be a mom without a main support system. Learning to rebuild from the brokenness.   Learning to be okay with being by myself.  With that came leaving Toledo, OH (that I’ve loved and been a part of for the last 14 years) and going back to my roots in the Clare/Mt.Pleasant, MI area.  So bear with me as I say goodbye to one chapter, and hello to another.  Although, I will still make trips down to Toledo, so if you happen to want pictures still, I’ll still be down every once in a while.

To those who don’t know me, hi. I’m Joy.  I’m a 32 year old mom with four crazy boys, and I’m rebuilding my life here.  Thankfully that also means getting to meet so many of you here and make some friends in the process.  I’ve been shooting expectant mommas, newborns, and babies professionally for a few years now, and have trained under some of the best newborn photographers in the industry.  Since I’m new here though, I’ll be offering a $100 discount on sessions until I get back on my feet and get a studio again.  I would love to work with you and be able to capture precious memories of your little one for you.

Spring Is Almost Here | Toledo Ohio Family Photographer

I know.  I’ve been in a rut when it comes to posting on the blog here at JOY Photography, but you all have been amazing at keeping me crazy busy since the end of last year (so a huge thank you for that!).  Now that winter has thrown us one last (very cold) curveball, Spring is right around the corner for everyone here in Northwest Ohio.  That means it’s time to start thinking about families, flowers, and babies.  Spring minis are being held.  Family sessions will take place outdoors, while baby sessions can be done indoors or outdoors.  I plan on getting some flowers to incorporate into baby sessions as well, because with Spring come beautiful blooms and arrays of different colors.  (you read that right, I’m ready to embrace colors too).

This is also a great time to start on Mommy & Me sessions, which are a perfect gift for Mother’s Day.  Husbands if you’re reading this, maybe surprise the wife with a gift card for a session.  🙂  Us moms seriously don’t ever get in front of the camera enough, and it really should happen a lot more.  Even if you don’t go with a professional, get some more snapshots of your wife with your kids.  You’ll be thankful you did.

So, you’re probably wondering, well, what’s the session cost for these mini sessions?  What types of minis are available?  Where are they available at?

Session cost is:

$275 and includes 15 digitals with print release (available via download)

**first 5 to schedule will get $75 off**

Mini session types are as follows:

Family Minis

Baby Spring/Easter Minis

Mommy & Me Minis

These are available to those in and around the Toledo, OH area, however, I will also be doing a limited amount of them for people in and around Clare, MI starting in April.

So, if you live in Toledo, Perrysburg, Maumee, Sylvania, Oregon, Northwood, or anywhere else I may have forgotten, contact me if you’d like to schedule, or if you’d like to purchase a gift card for a session for your wife or anyone else you love.

(p.s. this little one says don’t miss out!)

New Life – Fresh 48 Newborn Hospital Session | Ohio Photographer

I’ll admit to not being the best at blogging, but the truth is I’ve been completely overwhelmed with catching up from sessions and doing new sessions since my dad passed.  But today’s session I absolutely had to blog about.  A new teeny little man made his entrance into the world yesterday morning.  He is the son of two very dear friends of mine who helped me to get my photography going when they had their first baby, who was (and still is) and adorable little girl.  Without them and their never-ending encouragement since that session my photography and this business never would have taken off.  I would have never met some amazing friends of theirs either, who I have now been able to work with as well.  Lastly, it’s SO healing to just see a new baby within those first 24-48 hours after birth for fresh 48 sessions, especially after a huge loss.

But enough about that.  I know you’re all dying to see the new baby.  Everyone, welcome Levi to our beautiful world.  His session was done at the Toledo Hospital here in Ohio.  I do travel to other hospitals in and around the area for these sessions.  If you want to book one, they’re available as a separate session and as an add-on to a normal newborn session.  They’re all about capturing the newness of the baby, and the teeny tiny little details.  They’re a lifestyle type session, meant little or no posing and also just a tiny bit of editing.

New little baby all snuggled up and comfy.

He loved having his hands in his face.  Every time we would try to move them, he’d bring them right back.  So sweet.  Taking a moment with mom & dad.

Those cheeks & wide eyes. Absolutely perfect in every way.

Loved in Passing| Ohio Photographer

For those waiting on galleries, I know I posted in my FB page about my dad’s passing, but I wanted to make a quick post about it here.  My father passed away on 6/24 so we’re taking a view days to grieve and also go through the funeral (which is tomorrow).  For those that have your parents and have a beautiful relationship with them, cherish it.  If you want to document it with grandparent & child pictures or pictures of yourself with your parents, I would be more than happy to capture those moments for you.  Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you.  Every day.  This life goes so quickly.

In loving memory of my dad.
